Yahoo has announced its intention to close its Yahoo Messenger service 20 years after its launch, and Yahoo, owned by Verizon Communications, has confirmed it will stop Messenger on July 17.
Yahoo also recommended that its users switch to another application called Squirrel, which is currently available in its trial version, so that it can be used only through an invitation to try it.
The company gave its users a six-month grace period to be able to back up old messages.
Yahoo Messenger was launched in 1998 under the name Yahoo Pager, which included several features that guaranteed him strong competition with similar applications and services and even surpassed them.
